Posted by admin | Domaining News | Wednesday 19 November 2008 4:20 am

The final lists have been published for the TRAFFIC Australia auctions being conducted by Rick Latona and Aftermarket.com. Latona’s list consists of 62 domains nearly half of which are listed as No Reserve. This follows closely in step with the Aftermarket.com list which has 100 domains half of which are listed at No Reserve as well.  Both lists contain keyword rich generics form the .com.au space as well.

The auctions take place on Thursday in Australia which will be Wednesday, November 19th at 5:30pm and 9pm in the Eastern US. Check the TDU site out for more information.  Online bidding is now open for both events. Aftermarket.com can be accessed here and Rick Latona’s auction is available here.

Both sites require registration. Since the auction is being held on the other side of the planet and time zones vary it may be wise to make your bids early. By the looks of it, both the Aftermarket.com and Rick Latona auctions have already attracted bidding activity with a handful of domains already receiving bids.

Mark Cuban charged with Insider Trading

Posted by admin | Domaining News | Wednesday 19 November 2008 4:20 am

The SEC has charged Mark Cuban with Insider Trading over the sale of 600,000 Mamma.com shares in June 2004. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks owned stakes in registrars Tucows and Register.com.

The Commission’s complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, alleges that in June 2004, Mamma.com Inc. invited Cuban to participate in the stock offering after he agreed to keep the information confidential. The complaint further alleges that Cuban knew that the offering would be conducted at a discount to the prevailing market price and that it would be dilutive to existing shareholders.

Within hours of receiving this information, according to the complaint, Cuban called his broker and instructed him to sell Cuban’s entire position in the company. When the offering was publicly announced, Mamma.com’s stock price opened at $11.89, down $1.215 or 9.3 percent from the prior day’s closing price of $13.105. According to the complaint, Cuban avoided losses in excess of $750,000 by selling his stock prior to the public announcement of the offering.

In a response on his blog, Mark Cuban says:

“I am disappointed that the Commission chose to bring this case based upon its Enforcement staff’s win-at-any-cost ambitions. The staff’s process was result-oriented, facts be damned. The government’s claims are false and they will be proven to be so.”

Yahoo! CEO Jerry Yang Steps Down

Posted by admin | Domaining News | Wednesday 19 November 2008 4:20 am

With all that’s happened with Yahoo! recently, this may come as no surprise, but Jerry Yang has stepped down as CEO. Yang, who co-founded the company in 1995, has come under a great deal of criticism in recent months, most notably for turning down Microsoft’s $47.5 Billion dollar buy-out proposal (almost 3x what the company is now worth).

Yahoo remains in a very vulnerable position as their market cap plummets , the Google-proposed ad partnership has reportedly disappeared . There have also been no new developments coming from the rumored AOL deal and Yang’s departure could signal the end of that possibility.  Yang’s decision is better late than never, but in this economy it will take a lot of work to get the company back where it was just months earlier.  With the close connection domainers have to Yahoo, this is important news. Hopefully this move is a sign that the company is making a turn around.
